Permanent Routes

For information about all permanent routes in the USA, go to the RUSA web site at: http://www.rusa.org/perminfo.html

There are currently 3 permanent route owners in Iowa (Iowa Randonneurs is not affiliated with any permanent route owner):

Greg Courtney

Details of Greg’s routes are listed on his web site at:

Please note that Permanents can only be ridden by members of Randonneurs USA. The above table shows all of the Permanent routes offered (click on the underlined distances to see a route map). The first five are Permanent Populaires. The next six listed follow the same routes as Iowa Randonneurs’ brevets. The others are all Free-Route Permanents, and can be ridden in either direction. For more information on what these “any time” brevets are, take a look at the RUSA web site Permanent FAQs. The RUSA web site also has more information on Free-Route Permanents. If you want to ride one of these routes, you will need to pre-register using the form below. Please give reasonable notice, especially to ride one of the Free-Routes, as your exact planned route will need to be checked.

Routes #9 and #86 above are listed with year round availability. This is to facilitate riders chasing RUSA’s R-12 award, which requires a 200km in each of 12 consecutive months. Please note that these rides are generally not recommended in the Winter months, and riding them at this time of year will require appropriate clothing and equipment for ice, snow, and frigid temperatures! The routes are both loops, one to the South and one to the West, starting in Cedar Falls.

The Permanent routes listed here are hosted by Robert Fry, Randonneurs USA member #751. Iowa Randonneurs has no connection with the administration of any Permanent route.
